He dragged himself into the dorm room, his backpack heavy on his shoulders. The air was thick with the scent of stale pizza and something vaguely floral that made his sinuses throb. He kicked off his shoes and slumped onto his bed, the springs groaning in protest. Another all-nighter, another failed attempt at grasping the concepts for his physics final.

He glanced at his journal, sitting innocently on his desk. He swore he’d left it tucked under his pillow. Now, it was out in the open. His roommate, Liam, was whistling in the hallway, completely oblivious. He felt a wave of nausea. He didn't want Liam knowing his anxieties about grades or the clumsy poetry he wrote late at night. The thought of being vulnerable to someone so… care-free… was overwhelming.
